President’s Message – September 2019

Happy September! The kids are back in school, we’re into the 2nd game of the Bears season, Halloween decorations are starting to come out and we just wrapped our first quarter for the chapters 2020 fiscal year. Fall is my favorite Chicago season and hopefully you’re enjoying our beautiful weather as much as I am.

August was another great month of reconnecting with our community, 68 women leaders came out to connect with peers and themselves as we got loose with yoga, fed our soul by reminding ourselves of the value of taking care of ourselves and had a great day of golf!  If you did not attend the event and would like to join us next year, please let us know what you’d like to see us do. Our feedback buttons are everywhere throughout our website now so please tell us how we can improve.

In addition to your feedback on how we can improve, we’re calling for volunteers. Each and every committee has a need, you’ll also find volunteer buttons throughout the website to learn where you can get involved.  Volunteering for a committee is a great way to grow your network, help influence the value we deliver and a hugely rewarding way to give back to our community and your fellow members

I’m excited to share that we are on track to providing continuous networking and professional development opportunities throughout the year.  In less than 2 weeks, we’ll be hosting the Bears v Vikings game, Sunday 9/29 at Penthouse 111, located at 111 W. Jackson Blvd in Chicago. Just a few short blocks from Union Station – come join us for some friendly wagering, trivia and more!  All registration fees that we collect will go to Ronald McDonald House!

Our biggest educational event of the year is also right around the corner, our Fall Summit 10/22 – 10/23 at the Drury Lane Conference Center, Oakbrook Terrace, IL. Take advantage of the Early Bird pricing and click here to register by September 24!

It’s also that time of year when many review and re-evaluate their professional journey and HFMA Certification may be part of your strategy for growth. Did you know First Illinois has an award winning program and committee to help you get certified?  Our chapter has a higher pass rate than the national average, given our commitment to preparing our members for the exam modules through special training, materials, and availability of previously certified members.  We’ll host an overview webinar on 10/25 but please don’t hesitate to reach out if you are ready to get started now.
